Happier at Home: Kiss More, Jump More, Abandon a Project, Read Samuel Johnson, and My Other Experiments in the Practice of Everyday Life

Happier at Home: Kiss More, Jump More, Abandon a Project, Read Samuel Johnson, and My Other Experiments in the Practice of Everyday Life - Gretchen Rubin I think Gretchen Rubin and I have very similar personalities, and that is especially why I like her books. I am not sure that reading this book would be the kind of thing that everyone gets something out of, though. Rubin acknowledges that her life is very privileged and if reading advice from someone coming from that background will frustrate you, I would not recommend this book.

That being said, I do think I got a lot out of her book (and blog) - I like the advice to "make the opposite argument" & her way of embracing ambiguity "the opposite of a profound truth is also true."

Coming from a philosophy background this is sort of a funny book to read because it is about the same sorts of topics I read about in grad school from a much more accessible perspective. She talks about examining happiness by "thinking about feeling good and feeling bad - in an atmosphere of growth." And I think that is a great summation of what some philosophy tries to do.
